Huguenots in Later Stuart Britain Volume I - Crisis, Renewal, and the Ministers' Dilemma

Huguenots in Later Stuart Britain Volume I - Crisis, Renewal, and the Ministers' Dilemma
Robin Gwynn, "Huguenots in Later Stuart Britain: Volume I - Crisis, Renewal, and the Ministers' Dilemma"
English | ISBN: 1845197674 | 2017 | 464 pages | EPUB | 3 MB
The Huguenots in Later Stuart Britain is planned as one work to be published in three interlinking volumes (titles/publication dates detailed below). It examines the history of the French communities in Britain from the Civil War, which plunged them into turmoil, to the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, after which there was no realistic possibility that the Huguenots would be readmitted to France. There is a particular focus on the decades of the 1680s and 1690s, at once the most complex, the most crucial, and the most challenging alike for the refugees themselves and for subsequent historians. The work opens with the Calvinist French-speaking communities in England caught up in the Civil War. They could not avoid it, with many of their members largely assimilated into English society by the 1640s. Generally they favoured the Parliamentarian side, but any victory was pyrrhic because the Interregnum supported the rights of Independent congregations which undermined their whole Calvinist

Hudson Valley Murder & Mayhem

Hudson Valley Murder & Mayhem
Andrew K Amelinckx, "Hudson Valley Murder & Mayhem"
English | ISBN: 1540216667 | 2017 | 146 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
The Hudson Valley is drenched in history, culture and blood. In the fall of 1893, Lizzie Halliday left a trail of bodies in her wake, slaughtering two strangers and her husband before stabbing a nurse to death at the asylum housing her. A Jazz Age politician, tired of fighting with his overbearing wife, murdered her and buried the body under the front porch. In 1882, a cantankerous old miner, dubbed the "Austerlitz Cannibal" by the press, chopped up his partner before he himself swung from the end of a rope. Author Andrew Amelinckx dredges up the Hudson Valley's dark past, from Prohibition-era shootouts to unsolved murders, in eleven heart-pounding true stories.
