Reworking the Relationship between Asylum and Employment

Reworking the Relationship between Asylum and Employment
Reworking the Relationship between Asylum and Employment By Penelope Mathew
2012 | 220 Pages | ISBN: 041558079X | PDF | 2 MB
Touching on the laws and practices of a wide array of countries around the globe, this book examines the extent to which refugees and asylum-seekers' right to work is protected by international human rights law. The book examines a number of key international treaties, national constitutions and some foundational cases from national courts in order to make the case that the practise of restricting refugees and asylum-seekers access to the labour market is illegal. In so doing, the author examines some intricate legal questions, such as the interpretation of the Refugee Convention's provisions restricting rights to refugees 'lawfully staying', the application of racial discrimination to citizenship distinctions, and the ways in which limitations on human rights are applicable in this context. The book also looks at some broader philosophical questions such as the meaning of equality and human dignity, and the legitimacy of the right to work. The book goes on to explore broader debates concerning migration and 'open borders' in order to unpack the fears that drive many countries' restrictive measures. Readers are invited to consider whether the world would be a better place with more freedom of movement. It is a unique stand-alone treatment of the subject and includes the Michigan Guidelines on the Right to Work.Reworking the Relationship between Asylum-Seekers and Employment is written in an accessible style that will appeal to academics, policy-makers, practitioners and students. It combines a strong black-letter approach with a law in context approach that explains why the law takes its current shape and questions current orthodoxy.

Revolution and Witchcraft The Code of Ideology in Unsettled Times

Revolution and Witchcraft The Code of Ideology in Unsettled Times
Revolution and Witchcraft: The Code of Ideology in Unsettled Times
English | 2023 | ISBN: 3031176812 | 440 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 8 MB
Ideas influence people. In particular, extremely well-developed sets of ideas shape individuals, groups, and societies in far-reaching ways. This book establishes these "idea systems" as an academic concept. Through three intense episodes of manipulation and mayhem connected to idea systems―Europe's witch hunts, the Mao Zedong-era "revolutions," and the early campaign of the U.S. War on Terror―this book charts the cognitive and informational matrices that seize control of people's mentalities and behaviors across societies. Through these, the author reaches two conclusions. The first, that we are all vulnerable to the dominating influence of our own matrices of ideas and to those woven by others in the social system. The second, that even the most masterful manipulators of idea programs may lose control of the outcomes of programmatic manipulation. Amongst this analysis, sixty-plus central conceptual terminologies are provided for readers to analyze multiform idea systems that exist across space, time, and cultural contexts.

Returning to Revolution Deleuze, Guattari and Zapatismo

Returning to Revolution Deleuze, Guattari and Zapatismo
Thomas Nail, "Returning to Revolution: Deleuze, Guattari and Zapatismo "
English | ISBN: 0748655867 | 2012 | 216 pages | EPUB | 237 KB
We are witnessing the return of political revolution. However, this is not a return to the classical forms of revolution: the capture of the state, the political representation of the party, the centrality of the proletariat or the leadership of the vanguard. After the failure of such tactics over the last century, revolutionary strategy is now headed in an entirely new direction. Thomas Nail argues that Deleuze, Guattari and the Zapatistas are at the theoretical and practical heart of this new direction. 'Returning to Revolution' is the first full-length book devoted to Deleuze and Guattari's concept of revolution and to their connection with Zapatismo.

Governments often use direct subsidies or tax credits to encourage investment and promote economic growth and other development objectives. Properly designed and implemented, these incentives can advance a wide range of policy objectives (increasing employment, promoting sustainability, and reducing inequality). Regional Human Rights Systems Volume V

Regional Human Rights Systems Volume V
Regional Human Rights Systems: Volume V By Christina M. Cerna (editor)
2014 | 592 Pages | ISBN: 1409439119 | PDF | 52 MB
Over the past sixty years the regional human rights systems have surpassed the UN human rights bodies in affording protection to the victims of human rights violations. Most of these systems have courts that are empowered to issue legally binding judgments and reparations for violations of human rights, which states have been unwilling to accord the UN system. The essays selected for this volume examine the structure and functioning of the principal regional human rights systems in the world today: 1) the Inter-American Commission and Court of Human Rights, 2) the European Court of Human Rights, 3) the African Commission and Court of Human and Peoples' Rights and 4) the ASEAN Intergovernmental Human Rights Commission. These systems guarantee primarily civil and political rights. Central to all four systems is the necessity of a democratic form of government to guarantee these rights, although not all governments, parties to these regional treaties, are democracies. These articles trace the history of these systems, in particular, the expansion of their membership to include almost all independent countries in the region, and their evolution towards recognition of a 'right to democracy'.

Refining Relativity (The Special Theory)

Refining Relativity (The Special Theory)
Refining Relativity (The Special Theory) by Karunesh M. Tripathi
English | 2021 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B09B6B8CXT | 135 pages | EPUB | 4.54 Mb
Special Relativity relations, though derived for a light signal, are used on physical objects, that too with conditions, to declare phenomena of length contraction and time dilation in motion. Ad hoc selection of frame - stationary sometimes and moving at other times - for imposing conditions further worsens the confusion. The same relations produce just the opposite results when applied without, or with change in, conditions.
