Systems of Classification in Premodern Medical Cultures Sickness, Health, and Local Epistemologies (Medicine and the Body in A
Systems of Classification in Premodern Medical Cultures: Sickness, Health, and Local Epistemologies (Medicine and the Body in Antiquity) By Ulrike Steinert (editor)
2020 | 322 Pages | ISBN: 1138571121 | PDF | 6 MB
Systems of Classification in Premodern Medical Cultures puts historical disease concepts in cross-cultural perspective, investigating perceptions, constructions and experiences of health and illness from antiquity to the seventeenth century.Focusing on the systematisation and classification of illness in its multiple forms, manifestations and causes, this volume examines case studies ranging from popular concepts of illness through to specialist discourses on it. Using philological, historical and anthropological approaches, the contributions cover perspectives across time from East Asian, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cultures, spanning ancient Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome to Tibet and China. They aim to capture the multiplicity of disease concepts and medical traditions within specific societies, and to investigate the historical dynamics of stability and change linked to such concepts.Providing useful material for comparative research, the volume is a key resource for researchers studying the cultural conceptualisation of illness, including anthropologists, historians and classicists, among others.

Swift Programming Language

Swift Programming Language
Swift Programming Language: Your comprehensive guide to learn all the basics of the Swift programming language, step by step by John Peterson
English | 2022 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B0BR67W2N7 | 140 pages | EPUB | 0.14 Mb
Swift is a multi-paradigm, general-purpose, open-source programming language for iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, and iOS development. It was created by Apple in 2014 to give developers a powerful language to develop iOS apps. According to swift.org, the language was designed to be safe, fast, and expressive. It's intended to be a replacement for C-based languages. The Swift language is constantly evolving, and the community continues to grow. Swift source code can be found on GitHub, making it easy for anyone to access the code.Swift features> Powerful generics: Generics allow you to write flexible, reusable functions and types that can work with any type. Native error handling: Swift provides support for throwing, catching, propagating, and manipulating errors at runtime. Structs and classes: Swift allows you to define a structure or class in a single file, and the external interface is made available for other code to use. Protocol extensions: Swift allows you to define behavior on protocols themselves, rather than in global functions or individual conformances. Memory safety: Swift automatically manages memory and prevents unsafe behavior from happening in your code.Memory management: With Automatic Reference Counting (ARC), Swift tracks and manages our app's memory usage. This means we don't need to worry about memory management ourselves.Flexible enumerations: Swift enums support pattern matching and can have payloads.>Swift was designed to be easy to learn and easy to use. Apple created the language with new coders in mind. Whether you're still in school, exploring a new career path, or wanting to learn how to code, Swift was created to be a simple and intuitive first language to learn.Once you learn Swift, you'll be an appealing candidate for potential employers. Swift developers are in high demand. According to Apple, the company has created around two million jobs in the United States. According to Indeed, the average salary for an iOS developer in the U.S. is $116,804. If you want to get into app development, Swift is a smart language to learn.

String-Net Construction of RCFT Correlators

String-Net Construction of RCFT Correlators
String-Net Construction of RCFT Correlators
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3031146816 | 213 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 18 MB
This book studies using string-net models to accomplish a direct, purely two-dimensional, approach to correlators of two-dimensional rational conformal field theories. The authors obtain concise geometric expressions for the objects describing bulk and boundary fields in terms of idempotents in the cylinder category of the underlying modular fusion category, comprising more general classes of fields than is standard in the literature. Combining these idempotents with Frobenius graphs on the world sheet yields string nets that form a consistent system of correlators, i.e. a system of invariants under appropriate mapping class groups that are compatible with factorization. The authors extract operator products of field objects from specific correlators; the resulting operator products are natural algebraic expressions that make sense beyond semisimplicity. They also derive an Eckmann-Hilton relation internal to a braided category, thereby demonstrating the utility of string nets for understanding algebra in braided tensor categories. Finally, they introduce the notion of a universal correlator. This systematizes the treatment of situations in which different world sheets have the same correlator and allows for the definition of a more comprehensive mapping class group.
