On Expertise Cultivating Character, Goodwill, and Practical Wisdom

On Expertise Cultivating Character, Goodwill, and Practical Wisdom
Ashley Rose Mehlenbacher, "On Expertise: Cultivating Character, Goodwill, and Practical Wisdom "
English | ISBN: 0271092777 | 2022 | 198 pages | EPUB | 1082 KB
There is a deep distrust of experts in America today. Influenced by populist politics, many question or downright ignore the recommendations of scientists, scholars, and others with specialized training. It appears that expertise, a critical component of democratic life, no longer appeals to wide swaths of the body politic.

Off Sites Contemporary Performance beyond Site-Specific

Off Sites Contemporary Performance beyond Site-Specific
Off Sites: Contemporary Performance beyond Site-Specific By Bertie Ferdman
2018 | 212 Pages | ISBN: 0809334704 | PDF | 23 MB
Honorable Mention,ATHE's 2018 Outstanding Book Award Contextualizing the techniques and methods of the incredibly rich and vital genre of site-specific performance, author Bertie Ferdman traces the evolution of that term. Originally used for experimental staging practices and then later also for engaged situational events, site-specific is no longer sufficient for the genre's many contemporary variations. Using the term off-site, Ferdman illustrates five distinct ways artists have challenged the disciplinary framework of site-specific theatre: blurring the traditional boundaries between the fictional and the real; changing how the audience and actor interact with each other and whether they are physically together or apart; fabricating sites from physically bound, conceptually constructed, or virtual spaces; staging live situations in real/nonreal and often mediated encounters; and challenging our preconceived notions of time and space. Tracing the genealogy of site-based work through the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, Ferdman outlines the theoretical groundwork for her study in the introduction. Individual chapters focus on distinct types of off-sites-the interdisciplinary discourse of disciplinary sites; the spaces of audience engagement with spectator sites; the dislocation of time for temporal sites; and the historiographical spaces of mapping for urban sites. Ferdman examines site-based work being done in the Americas by contemporary companies and artists experimenting with new forms and practices for site-driven theatre. Key productions discussed include Private Moment by David Levine, Geyser Land by Mary Ellen Strom and Ann Carlson, Jim Findlay's Dream of the Red Chamber, and Lola Arias' Mi Vida Después.

Normal Cytology An Illustrated, Practical Guide

Normal Cytology An Illustrated, Practical Guide
Normal Cytology: An Illustrated, Practical Guide
English | 2022 | ISBN: 3031203356 | 174 Pages | PDF (True) | 30 MB
In the practice of cytopathology, cytologists frequently encounter a spectrum of benign, normal cells in samples. In fact, these normal cells frequently comprise the greatest proportion of material present on a cytology slide. This is frequently the case in Pap smears of the uterine cervix , urine samples, and lung samples such as bronchial brushings. Normal cytology can often mimic pathology leading to misdiagnoses, especially in cases with reactive and metaplastic changes. Moreover, cytopathology findings of certain neoplasms can also mimic normal cytology.

English | 2022 | ISBN: 3031012488 | 477 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 35 MB
This book presents a clear and concise introduction to the field of nonlinear dynamics and chaos, suitable for graduate students in mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, and in natural sciences in general. This second edition includes additional material and in particular a new chapter on dissipative nonlinear systems. The book provides a thorough and modern introduction to the concepts of dynamical systems' theory combining in a comprehensive way classical and quantum mechanical description. It is based on lectures on classical and quantum chaos held by the author at Heidelberg and Parma University. The book contains exercises and worked examples, which make it ideal for an introductory course for students as well as for researchers starting to work in the field.

Nature Contested Environmental History in Scotland and Northern England

Nature Contested Environmental History in Scotland and Northern England
Nature Contested: Environmental History in Scotland and Northern England By Professor T. C. Smout
2000 | 256 Pages | ISBN: 0748614109 | PDF | 14 MB
This book is about four centuries of conflict over some of the most valued landscapes in Europe. Combining social and cultural history with ecology and geography T. C. Smout has written one of the most profound, as well as one of the most entertaining works of environmental history ever published. The highlands, islands and borders of Scotland, the Lake District and northern moors of England form a natural region, whose wildness has inspired some and oppressed others. The crags and moorlands have been both treasured for their beauty and biodiversity and reviled as unproductive deserts to be improved and reclaimed. The context between these two views of nature - conservation versus development; jobs versus birds; landscape versus forestry; use versus delight -- is at the centre of the book.

Nationalism in Internationalism Ireland's Relationship with the European Union

Nationalism in Internationalism Ireland's Relationship with the European Union
Nationalism in Internationalism: Ireland's Relationship with the European Union by ichael Holmes , Kathryn Simpson
English | PDF,EPUB | 147 Pages | ISBN : 3031092880 | 3.4 MB
This book interprets the relationship between Ireland and the European Union (EU). We are coming up to 50 years since Ireland acceded to the EU (2023), and the links between the two are unique and distinctive. The volume presents an original interpretation of Irish-EU relations, and this in turn has implications for a wider understanding of the EU. Its aim is to analyse the Irish-EU relationship from the idea of two apparently contradictory political ideas - internationalism (as represented by European integration in this particular instance) and nationalism (long the dominant value in Irish politics). The authors argue that to date the contradictions have been managed with considerable ease, leading us to characterise the Irish-EU relationship as "nationalism within internationalism".
