This book is a collaborative and cross-disciplinary contribution that challenges the assumptions of capitalist business and society. It ultimately reflects on how to restore benevolence, collaboration, wisdom and various forms of virtuous deliberation amongst all those who take part in the common good, drawing inspiration from European history and continental philosophical traditions on virtue.

The Cappadocian Mothers Deification Exemplified in the Writings of Basil, Gregory, and Gregory

The Cappadocian Mothers Deification Exemplified in the Writings of Basil, Gregory, and Gregory
Carla D. Sunberg, T. A. Noble, "The Cappadocian Mothers: Deification Exemplified in the Writings of Basil, Gregory, and Gregory"
English | 2017 | ISBN: 1498282415, 1498282431 | EPUB | pages: 252 | 2.0 mb
The Cappadocian Fathers had great influence on the church of the fourth century, having brought their passion for Christ and theological expertise to life in their ministry. Their work was not devoid of influence, including that of their immediate family members. Within their writings we uncover the lives of seven women, the Cappadocian Mothers, who may have had more influence on the theology of the church than previously believed. As the Cappadocians wrestle with the Christianization of the concept of deification, we find the women in their lives becoming models for their theological understanding. The lives of the women become points of intersection in the kenosis-theosis parabola. Not only are the Cappadocian Mothers uncovered in the texts, but they become models of an optimistic theology of restoration for all of humanity without constraint of gender.

The Cambridge Companion to Roman Comedy

The Cambridge Companion to Roman Comedy
Martin T. Dinter, "The Cambridge Companion to Roman Comedy"
English | 2019 | ISBN: 0521173884, 1107002109 | PDF | pages: 434 | 2.4 mb
The Cambridge Companion to Roman Comedy provides a comprehensive critical introduction to Roman comedy and its reception through more than twenty accessible and up-to-date chapters by leading international scholars. This book defines the fundamentals of Roman comedy by examining its literary and comic technique as well as its stagecraft and music, and then traces the genre's influence through the centuries. Roman comedy has served as a model for writers as well as artists ranging from Shakespeare to Molière and from Martin Luther to Cole Porter. Just as the Middle Ages spawned Christianised versions of Terence's comedies, in which harlots find God rather than a husband and young men become martyrs rather than never-do-well lovers, the twentieth century has also given us its take on Roman comedy with Stephen Sondheim's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and numerous modern versions of Plautus' Amphitryon.

Jonathan a Fink, "The Baseball Gods are Real: Vol. 3 - The Religion of Baseball"
English | ISBN: 0578830116 | 2021 | 188 pages | EPUB | 5 MB
In this book, The Baseball Gods are Real: Volume 3 - The Religion of Baseball, I expand on my belief that the Baseball Gods do exist. As I did with the first two published books in my series about baseball, I take my readers with me as I chronicle the origins, history and religiosity of baseball. I cover a lot of ground, including detailed descriptions of famous baseball stadiums, which I call cathedrals, and well documented baseball miracles, some of which are extraordinary. This book also pays homage to many baseball saints, identifies many baseball sinners, and celebrates baseball zealots who are truly passionate about this great game.

The American Welfare State A Practical Guide

The American Welfare State A Practical Guide
The American Welfare State: A Practical Guide By Brian J. Glenn
2021 | 118 Pages | ISBN: 1032042761 | PDF | 6 MB
Through a practical introduction to the policies of the American welfare state―a wide-ranging subject much discussed but seldom described―this concise volume details the four main areas of social welfare policy: housing assistance, nutrition assistance, income assistance, and medical assistance. In plain, approachable language, author Brian Glenn explains, for example, how Section 8 housing vouchers function, what the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is, how Medicare has developed, and what Temporary Aid for Needy Families does. Especially in the era of Covid-19 and a recession, there is a need for citizens and students to understand the American social safety net. The American Welfare State is written in a manner that allows a complete novice to understand these programs in a brisk and comprehensive fashion that is both short enough to read over a couple of nights in a course and yet detailed enough for the programs to be understood at quite a nuanced level. In this thoroughly updated second edition, author Brian Glenn outlines the ways in which social welfare programs differ, sometimes dramatically, from locality to locality. To help students understand how these policies function, Glenn looks at the support households receive in five cities: Boston, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, and New Orleans. This approach provides not only a geographic spread but also an examination of the variability of support, giving the reader a feel for the range of funding levels and also the variety of ways programs can be implemented. In short, this book is a fully updated and handy teaching and learning tool that fills a huge gap in the literature on a subject that many want to teach but often lack the resources to do.
