Civilian-Driven Violence and the Genocide of Indigenous Peoples in Settler Societies

Civilian-Driven Violence and the Genocide of Indigenous Peoples in Settler Societies
Mohamed Adhikari, "Civilian-Driven Violence and the Genocide of Indigenous Peoples in Settler Societies"
English | ISBN: 0367858916 | 2021 | 344 pages | EPUB | 1169 KB
Existing studies of settler colonial genocides explicitly consider the roles of metropolitan and colonial states, and their military forces in the perpetration of exterminatory violence in settler colonial situations, yet rarely pay specific attention to the dynamics around civilian-driven mass violence against indigenous peoples. In many cases, however, civilians were major, if not the main, perpetrators of such violence. The focus of this book is thus on the role of civilians as perpetrators of exterminatory violence and on those elements within settler colonial situations that promoted mass violence on their part.

Citizens of Everywhere Indian Women, Nationalism and Cosmopolitanism, 1920-1952

Citizens of Everywhere Indian Women, Nationalism and Cosmopolitanism, 1920-1952
Rosalind Parr, "Citizens of Everywhere: Indian Women, Nationalism and Cosmopolitanism, 1920-1952 "
English | ISBN: 1108838146 | 2022 | 212 pages | PDF | 6 MB
Citizens of Everywhere traces the international careers of a cohort of extraordinary Indian women leaders during the final decades of colonial rule. Working in pursuit of the dual goals of Indian independence and women's rights, the women featured in this book established productive transnational connections to gain influence on the world stage, all against the backdrop of momentous events in India and beyond. In doing so, they contributed a distinct set of ideas to global conversations about rights and citizenship. By bringing this transnational activism to light, the author offers new perspectives on Indian nationalism. More broadly the book establishes Indian women as actors in the global histories of women's rights and international movements during the era of decolonisation.
