Ernest John Moeran His Life and Music

Ernest John Moeran His Life and Music
Ernest John Moeran: His Life and Music By Ian Maxwell
2021 | 375 Pages | ISBN: 1783276010 | PDF | 26 MB
This long-awaited study of the life and music of Anglo-Irish composer Ernest John Moeran (1894-1950) finally provides a full biography of the last senior figure in early twentieth-century British Music to have been without one.Although Moeran's work was widely performed during his lifetime, he suffered neglect in the years following his death. It was not until a re-awakening of appreciation for the music of the folksong-inspired English pastoralism in the latter part of the twentieth century that Moeran's tuneful, well-crafted and approachable music began to attract a new audience. However, widely accepted misconceptions about his life and character have obscured a clearunderstanding of both man and composer.Written with the benefit of access to previously unknown or unresearched archives, Ernest John Moeran: His Life and Music strips away a hitherto unchallenged mythological framework, and replaces it by a thorough-going examination and analysis of the life and work of a musician that may reasonably be asserted as having been unique in British music history.Table of ContentsIntroductionPart 1: Ancestry, Childhood and EducationChapter 1: Irish and Victorian OriginsChapter 2 (1894-1908): Childhood and Early EducationChapter 3 (1908-1912): Uppingham SchoolChapter 4 (1912-1914): The Music StudentPart 2: The First World WarChapter 5 (1914-1917): In the ArmyChapter 6 (1917): A Composer Goes to WarChapter 7 (1918): Ireland, and RecoveryPart 3: Rise and FallChapter 8 (1919-1920): The Establishment of a ComposerChapter 9 (1921-1922): LondonChapter 10 (1923-1924): Meteoric RiseChapter 11 (1925-1927): The Composer RuinedPart 4: ReconstructionChapter 12 (1928-1931): Starting AgainChapter 13 (1932-1935): Rebuilding a ReputationChapter 14 (1936-1942): Return to IrelandPart 5: Maturity, Marriage and Last YearsChapter 15 (1943-1944): 'Wonderful Things Together'Chapter 16 (1944-1945): MuseChapter 17 (1945-1946): 'My Word as a Gentleman'Chapter 18 (1947-1948): Masterpiece?Chapter 19 (1949-1950): 'No More Partings'Chapter 20: Last Days and DeathAppendix I: The Moeran MythologyAppendix II: List of WorksSelect BibliographyIndex

Jordan Owens, Ginny Naish, "Engineered to Order: A Practitioner's Guide"
English | 2014 | ASIN: B00K60MBYM | EPUB | pages: 48 | 0.2 mb
This is a practical guide for leaders of engineered to order companies that focus on capital equipment. It is targeted specifically at smaller companies (less than $100 Million in Revenue) however there are very useful tools and techniques for larger companies too. It covers many aspects of running an engineered to order company including, working capital, inventory management, master scheduling, lead time reduction, make or buy, supply chain management, capital spending and other areas. It is a concise book (67 pages) but contains much useful information that will allow anyone to make significant improvements to their engineered to order business. I have 33 years of experience in manufacturing and most of it with engineered to order businesses, starting as a manufacturing engineer through CEO positions. I have been consulting the past 5 years mostly in engineered to order businesses and I see the same issues in almost all of my clients. The book is not heavy on theory and contains many real life examples of how problems have been solved in engineered to order companies. There is also an appendix at the end of the book that contains useful resources to help in solving particular problems, I enjoyed writing it and I hope you get some significant benefit out of reading it. I have included my e-mail address in the book should you ever have any questions.

Engaged Observer: Anthropology, Advocacy, and Activism By Victoria Sanford, Asale Angel-Ajani
2006 | 254 Pages | ISBN: 0813538912 | PDF | 15 MB
Anthropology has long been associated with an ethos of "engagement." The field's core methods and practices involve long-term interpersonal contact between researchers and their study participants, giving major research topics in the field a distinctively human face. Can research findings be authentic and objective? Are anthropologists able to use their data to aid the participants of their study, and is that aid always welcome? In Engaged Observer, Victoria Sanford and Asale Angel-Ajani bring together an international array of scholars who have been embedded in some of the most conflict-ridden and dangerous zones in the world to reflect on the role and responsibility of anthropological inquiry. They explore issues of truth and objectivity, the role of the academic, the politics of memory, and the impact of race, gender, and social position on the research process. Through ethnographic case studies, they offer models for conducting engaged research and illustrate the contradictions and challenges of doing so.
