Finite Element Analysis

Finite Element Analysis
S.S. Bhavikatti, "Finite Element Analysis"
English | 2005 | ISBN: 9788122425246 | PDF | pages: 347 | 2.1 mb
Finite Element Analysis was developed as a numerical method of stress analysis, but now it has been extended as a general method of solution to many complex engineering and physical science problems. As it involves lot of calculations, its growth is closely linked with the developments in computer technology. Now-a-days a number of finite element analysis packages are available commercially and number of users is increasing. A user without a basic course on finite element analysis may produce dangerous results. Hence now-a-days in many M.Tech. programmes finite element analysis is a core subject and in undergraduate programmes many universities offer it as an elective subject. The experience of the author in teaching this course to M.Tech (Geotechnical Engineering) and M.Tech. (Industrial Structures) students at National Institute of Technology, Karnataka, Surathkal (formerly, K.R.E.C. Surathkal) and to undergraduate students at SDM College of Eingineering and Technology, Dharwad inspired him to write this book. This is intended as a text book to students and as an introductory course to all users of finite element packages.

English | February 2, 2012 | ISBN: B0094JTQ1W | 170 pages | PDF | 7.97 Mb
The Final Days of the Reich is the latest in the popular Images of War series by Ian Baxter. Drawing on rare and previously unpublished photographs accompanied by in-depth captions and text, this book is a compelling account of the final weeks of the Nazis' struggle for survival against overwhelming odds. Each photograph fully captures the tension, turmoil and tragedy of those last, terrible days of war as Wehmacht, Waffen SS, Luftwaffe, Hitlerjungend, Volkssturm and other units, some of which where comprised of barely trained conscripts, fought out their last battles.

Family Dialogue Journals School-Home Partnerships That Support Student Learning

Family Dialogue Journals School-Home Partnerships That Support Student Learning
JoBeth Allen, Jennifer Beaty, Angela Dean, "Family Dialogue Journals: School-Home Partnerships That Support Student Learning"
English | 2015 | ISBN: 0807756288, 0807756296 | PDF | pages: 159 | 1.0 mb
This honest, clearly written, and accessible book shows how to use Family Dialogue Journals (FDJs) to increase and deepen learning across grade levels. Written by K-12 teachers who have been implementing and studying the use of weekly journals for several years, it shares what they have learned and why they have found FDJs to be an invaluable tool for forming effective partnerships with families. Learn from firsthand accounts how students write weekly about one big idea they have studied, ask a family member a related question, and then solicit their writing in the journal. Through these journal entries, they share their family knowledge with classmates while actively engaging with the curriculum. In turn, teachers extend the academic discussion by writing to each family and incorporating their funds of knowledge into classroom lessons-writing about everything from the use of thermometers to life in Michoacán, Mexico. Family participation in the FDJs is remarkably high across ages, ethnicities, and economic realities.

Fairy Tales of the Russians and Other Slavs

Fairy Tales of the Russians and Other Slavs
Ace G. Pilkington, Olga A. Pilkington, "Fairy Tales of the Russians and Other Slavs"
English | 2009 | ISBN: 1935333003 | 440 pages | EPUB | 0.47 MB
What Critics Say: "A tour de force for lovers of fairy tales. For those of us in the West, tales from Russia and other Eastern European countries have not been as abundantly available as we might wish. The Pilkingtons remedy this with a far-reaching, well-organized collection sure to tempt any folklore lover. There are even stories of the undead! In addition, there is an excellent glossary, a fine bibliography that will be truly useful to those who want to know more, and an excellent introduction about Slavs." Kate Wolford, Editor of Enchanted Conversation: A Fairy Tale Magazine. "I have only praise for their choice of stories, and for their organization." D. L. Ashliman, noted folklorist, author of Folk and Fairy Tales: A Handbook. "Fairy Tales of the Russians and Other Slavs reminds us that the stories that inform our ideologies are old, insightful, and significant. It is the kind of book that anyone interested in Eastern European cultural traditions simply must have." Matthew Wilhelm Kapell, anthropologist, historian, Editor of Star Trek as Myth. "The resources in the back show careful and sophisticated scholarship. As I look through the text, I keep thinking, 'This is a book that was destined to be for these writers, a work of love and enjoyment.'" Professor Ed Reber, English and Folklore, Dixie State University. Publisher's Description: This book has the best Russian fairy tales plus stories from the other Slavic countries, from Ukraine and Poland, Slovakia and Serbia, Belorussia and the old Yugoslavia, from all those places where the Slavs lived and worked and sang epic songs and told impossible tales that were somehow true. It also has stories from the Kiev Cycle, legends about great warriors and warrior princesses, about dragons and dragonslayers, about wars won against impossible odds, and loves found in the most dangerous places. This is a collection for people who like fairy tales and even for those who don't. The book contains the broadest selection of Slavic fairy tales and legends currently in print with sixty-eight stories, ten newly translated. Even those who have read all of the Afanasiev collection of Russian Fairy Tales will find something new-four stories never before published in English. Though the book is not designed for scholars, it does include a detailed glossary, an introduction, and a comprehensive bibliography for those who want to find out more.

European Handbook of Neurological Management, Volume 2, Second Edition By
2011 | 342 Pages | ISBN: 1405185341 | PDF | 4 MB
Evidence-based, peer reviewed, best practice management guidelines for neurologists Diagnosis is only part of the puzzle. Effective treatment is what your patients really want. The European Federation of Neurological Societies has been publishing management guidelines in the European Journal of Neurology for many years. Developed by a consensus approach, using graded evidence, and then fully peer reviewed, these guidelines provide gold-standard, best-practice guidance to the treatment of neurological disorders. They help bridge the gap between what is done and what should be done for patients with neurological disorders. The basic guidelines have been expanded with 'Recommendations' based on strong evidence and 'Good Practice Points' where only weaker evidence is available. The Guidelines in this volume include, amongst others: Neurostimulation therapy for neuropathic pain Molecular diagnosis for a range of neurological conditions Intravenous immunoglobulin in the treatment of neurological diseases Sleep disorders in neurodegenerative disorders and stroke Management of low-grade gliomas Treatment of miscellaneous idiopathic headache disorders The European Handbook of Neurological Management provides a thoroughly rounded and grounded approach to best-practice neurological management using evidence-based principles.
